I love sweets Skittles, Starburst, Haribo and not to mention JELLY BELLY BEANS!! just to name a few but coming in at over 250cals a time (if your lucky) they have to be relegated to a every now and then, unless you want to be rolled out your house or fly away from being so high on sugar!
Ok so you want some sweets but your trying to be good! I’ll have half a pack thats like half the badness; but unless you are some sort of saint, which I am most certainly am not that never ever works. So you hang your head in shame.
Fruit just isn’t the same and I love fruit, so ARGHHH where do I turn?
I brought these biscuits to make the base of my fabulous gluten free banoffee pie (Link) and they really did do the job well, it was a shame however the reason the base for the pie was so lovely was due to the butter and chocolate that I added to it.
I brought 2 packs and had almost 3/4 of a pack left after the pie, however all but one are still in the cupboard over a week later.
So why you ask are these biscuits still in the cupboard and not in the depths of my belly? Well they are flavorless, have a odd crumbly texture and resemble nothing of a digestive, they are £1.35 (Link) for about 10 biscuits.
Overall opinion Mr Sainsburys you can do better! So all in all I give them a 2/10.
They only scored the points that they did because they helped make such a yummy pie.
I have reviews loads more GF products so you don’t have to try out the dud ones feel free to check them out 🙂 (Link)
Gluten Free Junk Food Craving (Link) post, where I illustrated my craving for pizza and chips, that I managed to fulfil without breaking my GF diet; has by far been my most popular post to date. Therefore I thought that I would share another fairly similar tale.
A week before my final charted accounting exam (Fingers crossed!!), I was feeling a bit down in the dumps, a bit emotional and probably hormonal. I had to go to the Mall to take my Macbook to the genius bar, is it kindly decided to stop turning ok… Naught MacBook!!!! I was just in one of those moods, I was exhausted all I wanted to do was slump down when I got home was to have a bit of a Netflix binge and stuff my face, with cake and chocolates, and have a bit of a pity party. I’m tired, it has been just one of those days, everyone gets them. All I want is to stuff my face with junk food and defiantly cannot be bothered to cook. Then my mind jumps straight for … dun dun dun! Pizza and chips! Once it is in my mind, it is no longer a want but a need, now I have a one track mind. I am already on my way to Tesco, I pull up in the car park, and it dawns on me; I have probably picked the worst meal ever for someone who is GF.
I huffed and puffed myself into Tesco, trying to rack my mind for something else I wanted, but I couldn’t get my mind off of pizza and chips. So I just figured I would have to start from scratch, not exactly my quick and junk food but being GF often just have to accept that compromises must be made.
Bread I think is one of the worst gluten free products out there and so expensive, for such an inadequate product.
Usually miniature and full of holes, so you can barely make a sandwich let alone have a hope in hell for using for a decent bacon sarnie or at a BBQ.
These Sainsbury’s own brand GF white rolls, have defiantly been the best out of a bad bunch. Continue reading
I am on a bit of a cheese and biscuit spree at the moment. First with my review of Nairns Gluten Free Oakcakes (Herb & Seed)(link) and now with Mrs Crimble’s Cheese Crackers the Sun-dried Tomato & Pesto variety. Continue reading
Pre Gluten days I loved loved loved having cheese & biscuits. I thought these days were long behind me.
But these tasty little oatcakes hit the spot. They were very tasty and fairly seedy and complimented my cheddar perfectly, I think they would be great with soft cheese too.
The only downside to them is that they are a little bit cardboardie in texture and I think for that reason a plain version of these could be a bit disappointing (not that I have tried them yet!). Continue reading
