Oxtraordinary -GF Review of The Ox (Bristol)

Oxtraordinary -GF Review of The Ox (Bristol)

Steak is kind of my boyfriend and my thing. In our opinion you really cannot beat a good steak. The Ox (Bristol)

So for my birthday he booked The Ox (Link) as a surprise, I knew he was taking me out but had no idea where so I was feeling a little anxious as I had recently be accidentally glutened whilst eating out and hadn’t been able to call ahead etc to check there were options.

When we arrived outside the restaurant I was so excited I had wanted to go to The Ox since its opening last year, it is re known for its fabulous stakes and cocktails (which is to be expected as it is twined with the Milk-thistle). Continue reading

Halloumi & Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables with Quinoa

Quinoa and HalloumiEach week my house mates and I cook a house meal, and since going GF both of them have got on board. One of my house mates cooked an amazing dish and introduced me to the wonderful world of Quinoa.

For those of you like me until recently knew nothing about Quinoa, it is an amazing naturally GF product which has high levels of protein, calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as being super filling so brilliant all round. Continue reading

Review: Sainsbury’s Free From White Rolls

image (3)Bread I think is one of the worst gluten free products out there and so expensive, for such an inadequate product.

Usually miniature and full of holes, so you can barely make a sandwich let alone have a hope in hell for using for a decent bacon sarnie or at a BBQ.

These Sainsbury’s own brand GF white rolls, have defiantly been the best out of a bad bunch. Continue reading

Yummy Gluten Free & Vegan Banana Bread

I loved banana bread before I went gluten free, it has always been a tasty snack as well as a good breakfast on the go.image (1)

After I went gluten free I didn’t have to adapt my recipe much to make a GF version, this lovely simple recipe is full of fibre to keep you fuller for longer  as well as being super moist. In an air tight tupperware container it can keep for up to around 6 days before starting to dry out. Recipe is easy to double up to make extra to freeze.

And an added bonus this banana bread is vegan, gluten and lactose free friendly!

Nutrition

I had read time and time again that getting your diet right had helped many people suffering from CFS. And it kind of makes sense its the food and drink we put in our bodies that gives us sustenance and energy, so if you get the balance right there its bound to make a bit of a difference.

Nutrition etc isn’t an area that I had a lot of expertise in so I decided to see a nutritionist. It is important to find one that knows about CFS/ME otherwise  I don’t there isn’t an awful lot of point.

I found the website below particularly helpful, it explains a bit about CFS and nutrition but most importantly it enables you to find a nutritionist in your area that has a specialism in the area:

Review: Mrs Crimble’s Cheese Crackers (Sundried Tomato & Pesto)

Mrs Crimbles GF CrackersI am on a bit of a cheese and biscuit spree at the moment. First with my review of Nairns Gluten Free Oakcakes (Herb & Seed)(link) and now with Mrs Crimble’s Cheese Crackers  the Sun-dried Tomato & Pesto variety.  Continue reading

Review: Nairns Gluten Free Oakcakes (Herb & Seed)

NairnsPre Gluten days I loved loved loved having cheese & biscuits. I thought these days were long behind me.

But these tasty little oatcakes hit the spot. They were very tasty and fairly seedy and complimented my cheddar perfectly, I think they would be great with soft cheese too.

The only downside to them is that they are a little bit cardboardie in texture and I think for that reason a plain version of these could be a bit disappointing (not that I have tried them yet!). Continue reading

Review: Pulsin Pea Protein (Powder)

Pea ProteinI have never really used protein powder before, in my mind it was for total gym nuts for the purpose of bulking up. However this stuff  is really quite brilliant its not full of sweeteners or artificial flavourings, is organic, vegan & gluten free. Continue reading
